I have about ten Wentworth jigsaws, some bought more than 20 years ago. They’re much more expensive than cardboard jigsaws, but they are proper puzzles that will entertain you for years to come. I probably do each one about once a year. They’re jigsaws best solved without peeking at the picture, as the whole point is to appreciate the craftiness of the cutting, which can deceive you like a cryptic crossword clue. Not all edge pieces look like edge pieces, and not all apparent edge pieces turn out to be edge pieces. (And not all of them have straight edges anyway.)
There is a huge range of images to choose from. And there are (usually) the “whimsies” - pieces with a shape that matches the subject of the picture. I say usually, because there are also some very difficult puzzles, with a small number of piece shapes and an image that combines with the cutting pattern to make them really tough. I have ordered a two or three during the coronavirus lockdown, and all were delivered in the time period stated on the website. In contrast to some statements here, I have had no problems with customer service.
Very poor experience. I placed an order and minutes later realised I had not ordered an additional puzzle I wanted due to a glitch in their website, so I emailed customer services asking if the puzzle could be added to my order and I was told this was impossible and advised to cancel my order, have it refunded and then reorder with the correct items. I knew I would be waiting a while for a refund so I asked if there was a discount available/free postage and I would order the new puzzle separately. After 2 days my email was responded to and I was told they couldn’t offer a discount and again I should cancel my order and have it refunded.
All this came after I had tried to place the order from my phone but the website was unresponsive so had to use a laptop to be able to add items to my basket.
In the end I cancelled my order and requested a refund however I won’t be replacing my order. Customer service is poor and unhelpful, wait time for puzzles is poor, expensive delivery regardless of the order size. All round a poor experience.
Not so good, the puzzle took 3 weeks to arrive, and when it did arrive it was the wrong one! Now having problems getting any response from Wentworth Puzzles, who asked me to email them. Disappointed...:(
